Being A Creative Kid Again

This past week I had the pleasure of bonding with other women at a Dames Bond event held at the Sanctuary for the Arts, a lovely center for creativity in Sunbury, Ohio, founded by Sydney Schardt.  At the center you are "surrounded by the sounds of bird songs and waterfalls, where adults and serious teens rekindle their creativity in a natural healing environment, relax as nature and the arts inspire and, share through public exhibits."

I was the photographer for the event, and therefore not in any of the pictures.  We arrived in the rain, and were greeted by Sydney to a beautiful lodge-type home surrounded by acres of trees and walking paths filled with art installations (some are pictured here).

Some of the artwork found outside at the Sanctuary....  A painted door between some trees, a mask hanging from a tree, a "book" sculpture in a tree.

After walking one of the paths, in the rain, we went inside and were given crayons and chalk and asked to draw what we were feeling and let our inner creative kid out.  It was a lot of fun, and it was great bonding with the women including Mary B. Relotto, founder and CEO of Dames Bond.

What do you do to foster your creativity?  Do you take time for yourself?  This was a great experience, and I plan on going back on my own.

Roberta...

Nice photo essay. The sanctuary looks like a great place to expand your creative horizons.

Ted - It was fun and really a beautiful place, although it was very difficult holding an umbrella and trying to shoot photos outside in the rain.  So it was very short, too.

Richard - Thanks for your compliment.  It is a great place to be creative, and she has many classes to help you do just that.  Or you can pay $8 and just go for the day and sit and read or paint or photograph.
