Wishing for a Longer Lens to Photograph the Eagles in Hocking Hills, Ohio

I was recently in Hocking Hills/Logan, Ohio -- just southeast of Columbus, Ohio -- for a NAWBO Board Retreat.  One of the board members told me about some bald eagles that were nesting nearby, and I really wanted to see and photograph them.  So my partner, Martin, and I wandered down the path near the river, and we found a cluster of trees with eagle nests.  We did see an eagle and her baby in the nest.  I did manage to get this photo.

And if I zoom in using Photoshop, here is a close-up view.

Wow, do I wish that I had a longer lens!

Someone did manage to take a few good close up videos of the mom and baby eagle - here is the link.

Whether it's photography or life, don't you sometimes wish you had a longer lens?  It would make things not only bigger, but clearer, less fuzzy.

Although I don't work as a Realtor in Logan, I can take care of your real estate needs in and around Columbus, Ohio.

Wow! There are a lot of people that would love to be able to snap a picture like you've just shown us. When I lived in Northern Michigan, I enjoyed going to a Bird Sanctuary where there were some Eagle Nests and sometimes you would just spot an Eagle. Thanks for the pictures....

Thanks David and Chris.  Glad you enjoyed the pictures!  It was a treat to see these magnificent birds, and I wish I could have seen the baby in the nest.

Thank you Leilani!  I did feel lucky, and I really do wish I could have gotten closer, but to have eagles in Ohio is a real treat to begin with.  Thanks for looking and your comments.

Roberta - I don't know what kind of camera you are using, but I think any picture of a nesting bald eagle is a good one. Check your local pawn shops, though. Quite often they will have lenses for very good prices. Cameras, too! That's where I got my Canon Rebel XS.

Thanks, Eric.  I am using a Nikon D300s with a Tamron 18-270 lens.  Both are really fabulous pieces of equipment, but I would like to add a 200-500 or longer lens for occasions like this.  Thanks for the tips.
