While traveling through Ireland, we took a trip to the Skelligs ~ Skellig Michael to be exact. It was an extremely bumpy 8 mile boat ride ~ even the captain said it was one of the roughest rides he'd taken people on. Thank goodness I took a dramamine before going!
When we arrived on the island It was cold, windy, foggy and absolutely, stunningly beautiful! Skellig Michael is an island, designated as a nature reserve and the site of an abandoned monastery built in the 8th century.
There were a ton of puffins on the island, along with other species of birds. And they seem to nest in small caves in the rocks to avoid the harsh winds.
This awesome character above was nice enough to pose for a few seconds for me. Below is a pic of more puffins I was able to capture as the fog started to lift.
